Makaton helps children to develop communication, language and literacy skills, which helps stimulate sounds and words. This visual way of communicating in turn helps to encourage language development, i.e. putting words together. Makaton helps understanding, giving the person an extra visual clue. It can be used by all ages and allows people with different languages to communicate with each other.
We use Makaton on a daily basis with all children in our care, teaching children basic words including the following; hello, goodbye, please, thank you, milk, water, share, wait, play, caring etc
